New Partnership with Climate Science Laboratory

The Art Research Fund is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking new partnership with the International Climate Science Laboratory (ICSL). This collaboration will create unprecedented opportunities for artists in our residency program to work directly alongside climate scientists, developing new methods for visualizing climate data and communicating complex environmental concepts through artistic practice.

Bridging Art and Climate Science

This partnership represents a significant step forward in our mission to develop meaningful interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges. By bringing together artists and scientists in shared research spaces, we aim to foster innovative methods of knowledge production that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries.

Dr. Maria Gonzalez, Director of the ICSL, notes: 'Artists bring unique perspectives and methodologies to climate research. Their ability to translate complex data into emotionally resonant experiences offers powerful new ways to communicate climate science to broader audiences.'

Key Initiatives

The partnership will support several new initiatives:

Co-Location Opportunities

Selected artists from our residency program will have the opportunity to work within ICSL facilities, gaining direct access to climate scientists, advanced environmental monitoring equipment, and real-time climate data.

Joint Research Projects

We will launch a series of collaborative research projects focused on developing new visualization methods for climate data, creating immersive experiences of climate scenarios, and exploring the affective dimensions of climate change.

Public Engagement Program

A joint public program will include exhibitions, workshops, and dialogues designed to engage diverse audiences with the intersection of climate science and artistic practice.

Impact on the Residency Program

This partnership will significantly enhance our residency program by providing artists with:

  • Direct access to scientific expertise and cutting-edge climate research
  • Opportunities to work with advanced climate modeling technologies
  • New audiences for their work within scientific communities
  • Expanded platforms for public engagement

Our Research Director, Marco Chen, explains: 'This collaboration opens exciting possibilities for how artistic research can contribute to climate science and public understanding of environmental issues. We're particularly interested in how artists can help visualize climate futures in ways that catalyze imagination and action.'

Looking Forward

The first joint initiatives under this partnership will begin in June 2024, with a pilot project focused on visualizing urban climate impacts. Artists interested in participating in these collaborative opportunities should note that our upcoming call for residency applications will include specific positions dedicated to this partnership.
